Bringing adaptability to everyday life.
Spring 2021 | 10 weeks
Background
For this project, I decided to focus on transportation, specifically mobility scooters used by seniors.
Problem
There is a lack of user-friendly mobility scooters designed for the retired adults that use them. Seniors should feel enabled to travel freely without asking for assistance due to their scooter's limited features.

Retired adults cherish their independence.
"The vast majority of seniors (89%) say the ability to age in place – or live independently is very important", and scooters provide a viable option to enable their independence.
However, most mobility scooters don't accommodate for limited abilities and offer a positive experience in certain situations.
Interviews
The only way to understand the user's needs.

Responses from Reddit users about their experiences with mobility scooters.
WOW! insights from interviews

Mobility scooters do not fully accommodate for abilities like paralyzation on one side(using one arm to steer/control).

Tired of asking people for help to reach things.

Can't see into or out of the aisle.

Concept refinement

2.
3.

I decided to go with the third form because it was modern, simple, and did not have the typical medical feel.

Most importantly,
How does this even solve their problem?

The adjustable seat raises up to 8 inches higher, allowing them to reach previously inaccessible products.

Cameras on the front allow users to see into the aisle.

The interface on the armrest alerts when someone is in their blind spot, avoiding collisions.

Duplicate handles allow users to use any side to steer and control.
